Derry City Legends played their final charity match, raising over £200,000 for great charities. The team, featuring 1989 treble winners Felix Healy, Liam Coyle, Jack Kaey, and Paul Curran, and 1997 league champions James Keddy, Gary Beckett, Sean Hargan, and Ryan Coyle, won 3-1 against a hastily assembled group of Derry fans. The match was an emotional occasion, with many of the team members being central figures in unforgettable FAI Cup triumphs and famous European nights. The Legends were managed by former 'Journal' sports reporter Kevin McLaughlin, who boasted a 100% winning record. The team scored three goals, with Colm Campbell scoring two and Sean McKeever scoring one. However, Chris McCallion's goal was controversially ruled out as referee Dermot Liddy sounded the whistle for full-time just as the ball crossed the line. Harry McCourt pulled one back for the Legends with a clinical header, set up brilliantly by Stevie Johnston. The result mattered little as all roads led to Badger's Bar afterwards for some tall tales and reminiscing about the Brandywell club's golden years. Other notable club legends Tony 'Doc' O'Doherty and Paul 'Oxo' McLaughlin were also present among the large crowd gathered. Legends 'gaffer' Martin Mullan admitted afterwards that he watched on from the sidelines with a lump in his throat as the match brought a memorable journey to an end.
